Galenica have had a clear focus on sustainability over the past decade in the development of our own pharmaceuticals. Like many other industries, we see the trend in the pharmaceutical industry moving in a more sustainable direction. This involves improved production processes, reduced environmental impact, increased resource efficiency, and an industry with high ethical standards that comply with laws and regulations. We further see sustainable initiatives being welcomed from the industry and trade associations as well as political frameworks.

A key aspect for the industry is to be transparent and forward-looking in its approach and welcome sustainable initiatives with enthusiasm, a can-do attitude and to encourage stakeholders to follow us all the way. We as actors within the pharmaceutical industry requires innovation, investment is research and development and a clear business strategy that address how sustainability aspects are taken into consideration in development and production.

We are constantly making investments and actions to best integrate sustainability as a natural part of our business. We further do yearly sustainable reporting to follow up on our performance. Galenica’s sustainability strategy is structured around the areas where we have the most opportunity to influence and where we can actively contribute to sustainable development throughout our value chain. The strategy is linked to stakeholder expectations, Galenica’s long-term strategy, our external environment, international objectives, and our core business.

Our sustainability strategy is divided into three areas along with strategic objectives, goals and KPI’s. It was identified through stakeholder dialogue and internal analysis of our impact on people and environment. The strategy is linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the UN 2030 Agenda and is based on materiality and relevance analyses in accordance with the SDG Compass.
